About us

Twenty Eight is an independent eatery in central Lower Hutt. We are in the business of people, and our mission is to provide a day-changing experience for our customers.

Proudly contributing to Aotearoa's iconic cafe culture, particularly in Wellington, Twenty Eight offers interesting cabinet food, a thoughtfully crafted brunch and lunch menu, and a solid coffee experience. Our goal is to present a space where customers can come for consistency, quality, and great service within a welcoming atmosphere.

Our house coffee is the Hodsen blend from Ozone coffee roasters. It is a blend of beans from Colombia, Nicaragua and Ethiopia. Their purpose is to lead enduring change in the way coffee is valued, grown, produced and enjoyed, sustainability for the future.

Who are we

Joshua Ross

Owner

Josh began his career at the esteemed Logan Brown Restaurant, rising through the ranks while studying at the Le Cordon Bleu campus in Wellington. In 2018, he stepped into the role of Head Chef at Bellamys, the iconic restaurant of New Zealand’s Parliament, where he earned and retained one hat during his tenure.

Alongside this, Josh has been a two-time semi-finalist in the San Pellegrino Young Chef Competition, represented New Zealand and placed third in the world at the Jeunes chefs Rotisseurs competition in Mexico City, and was awarded Young Business Person of the Year in 2022 by the Lower Hutt Chamber of Commerce. He was also the inaugural recipient of the Visa Hospitality Scholarship, which enabled him to work overseas in renowned restaurants including Saint Peter in Sydney and the three-Michelin-star Moor Hall in the United Kingdom.

Josh brings this depth of experience to Twenty Eight, with a vision to build a high-standard café in Lower Hutt that values its team, its customers, and the quality of the products it serves.
